Whether you are a noob or an seasoned traveler I know you want to find cheap flights for your next adventure.

Airline prices change every now and then like crazy and sometimes it gets really difficult to find cheap flights and it hinders us to travel to our dream destination.

But do not worry, in this post, I am going to give you my tips on how to find cheap flights anywhere around the world

We all know that it is so easy now to find flights.

You can just type in your destination and Mr. Google will suggest a lot of websites and services that offer flights to your dream destination.

The question is, are you really getting the best deal there is?

I have traveled to a lot of cities and countries from the Philippines to Asia and now in Europe.

I am going to give you my curated tips on how to find cheap flights that I live by when I book and plan my travels.

.

TIPS ON HOW TO FIND CHEAP FLIGHTS ANYWHERE

1. BOOK EARLY

It is no brainer that the earlier you book the best chance you can find cheap flights.

In a study analyzing 350 million airfares to more than 3,000 international markets.

It is suggested to book your International flights 4 to 7 months ahead to get the best deals.

While you should book your local travel for 2 to 3 months in advance.

Your best bet is to get a better price is to book as early as possible.

2. LOOK OUT FOR SEAT SALE

A lot of airlines offer sales on special occasions. Such as labor day, Christmas Holiday and End-of-year sale.

They announce it to their social media and websites so be sure to follow them.

Be adaptable with your travel dates. Sometimes when these airlines are offering seat sales, there is only a particular month or period that you can travel.

But the good thing is you have enough time to plan and prepare for your next adventure.

3. BE FLEXIBLE WITH YOUR TRAVEL DATES

Sometimes when looking out for airfares, you will see that some of the days are relatively cheaper than the other days.

Skyscanner has found that flying on Monday has been the cheapest day to book flights.

This data came from an overall survey analyzing three years of booking data from different airlines.

This may not hold true for all the destinations, but it is a good start when you are looking out for sale flights.

I know that it is better to fly on Saturday because it may be the start of your holiday from work, but know that trying to be flexible with the days to fly can give you a great amount of savings.

4. GO FOR SHOULDER SEASONS

Whether you already have a planned destination in your mind or you are just looking for your next travel goals.

It is important to research when is the best time to travel to your chosen destination

For example, the cheapest time to travel to Europe is from January to mid-May and September through early December.

Yes! Because during these times, Europe is cold. But do not be discourage, Europe is equally charming even in Fall and Winter.

Most importantly, the prices during these seasons are generally low so you can save a lot of money.

Summer in Europe is delightfully warmed but it is crammed with tourists and the prices of accommodation and airfares are generally high too.

But if you really want to go during the Summer the best time to travel is mid of August to mid of September. The weather this time is not too hot and not too cold. It is just perfect for a holiday of exploring

I scored a roundtrip ticket from the Philippines to Vienna for just 600 Euros during this season and it was a direct flight. I have flown with Eva Air and Thai Airways and I thought that they are both amazing airlines.

I wrote a separate blog post for my reviews about Eva Air and Thai Airways if you are interested.

5. USE SKYSCANNER

I discovered Skyscanner when I started traveling to Europe. Since then it has became one of my to-go website when I am planning for my next travel adventure.

It is a very useful tool when checking airline fares. You can even subscribe to their “Price Alert” system if you are monitoring a particular destination.

You can simply log in to their website and save your travel details and receive alerts on your email.

6. CHECK OTHER FLIGHT SEARCH ENGINES

When you use a flight search engine like Skyscanner, remember that all of them show more or less inflated prices because they can get a cut from Airlines for doing so.

But not all of them are the same. Some search engines inflate the flight costs much more than others so be careful with those.

I advise that you always compare the prices of these search engines.

The following are my favorite flight search tools that I use and I think the best one out there:

Bear in mind that this list is largely based on my preferences.

These search engines are not all the same. Some tools are available in one Search Engine that you can not find in the other. So feel free to navigate each and pick what suits your preferences.

.

7. CHECK THE AIRLINE WEBSITES TOO

While checking these search engines are helpful to find cheap flights, It is equally important to check the website of the airlines directly too.

Sometimes these airlines have an ongoing sale that you can take advantage of.

There are times that their fares are cheaper than what the Search Engines are displaying.

This happened to us when I was planning our Cambodia-Vietnam-Thailand Trip.

Vietjet website offers cheaper flights in Vietnam compared to Skyscanner with the same airlines.

8. LOOK FOR THE CHEAPEST CITY TO FLY

When I went to Europe the first time, my first destination was Bratislava, Slovakia. However, it was really expensive to book a flight from Manila to Bratislava.

So I opted to travel from Manila to Vienna which slashed more than half the cost if I travel straight to Bratislava.

Remember, transportation between cities and countries in Europe is so easy especially if the countries are part of the European Union.

For example, the connection from Vienna to Bratislava is just a 1-hour bus ride or you have an option to take the train if you like.

To do this, I like to take advantage of Skyscanner here. Skyscanner has an option to add nearby airports to your chosen destination. You can now see other cheaper options to travel.

9. CATCH ERROR FARES

Sometimes due to human errors or technical glitches, some airlines post mistakes in their prices.

Whatever the reason, it is your best chance to get huge discounts on flight booking.

The two best sites to look out for this is Secret Flying and AirFare Watchdog.

Both of them do a great job of haunting errors in sale pricing.

10. USING FLIGHT POINTS WHEN POSSIBLE

I am a fan of points. I collect them as much as I can. I apply for and use credit cards to earn them. Because it is a good way to fly for free.

I remember when I was in the Philippines, my husband and I flew from Manila to Coron Philippines paying just 45 Euros for a return flight for the two of us already.

It is so cheap it is almost free.

11. SUBSCRIBE TO AIRLINES

If you are a frequent traveler, It is worth to subscribe to some airlines to get the latest news.

I signed up for some airline loyalty programs that I take advantage of.

Sometimes they have sales that are only available to their members so you want to look out for these.

You can follow these airlines on social media too and be updated with their ongoing promos.

12. CHECK FOR EXTRA OR HIDDEN FEES

When we flew to Paris, Rome, and Prague we booked Ryanair.

Ryanair offers really cheap flights to a LOT of Europe cities however, since it was our first time to book them we did not realize the fees included.

We did not know that it is cheap because it is going to make us pay for our hand-carry luggage and charge us extra if we want to seat together.

They have the Priority Boarding that will allow you to bring 2 Cabin Bags and an additional 10 Kilos bag.

We did not know this rule so we end up paying for our Hand Carry bags.

One lesson when flying with a budget airline, always check the fine print before booking and read it carefully.

13. KEEP YOUR SEARCHES A TOP SECRET

Do not trust the search engines.

They keep track of your searches and they can see if you keep repeating searching for a particular destination.

Based on the cookies in your browsers, these prices can increase to lure you to book the flight already before it can get even higher.
